Good Friday
After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfil the scripture), ‘I am thirsty.’ A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19: 28-30)

Maundy Thursday
When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’ (Matthew 26: 30,36)
Christ Church’s very own Garden of Gethsemane last night, recreated around the Altar of Repose in the Lady Chapel. Our flower arrangers did a wonderful job (as always) to set the scene for The Watch with Jesus until Midnight.

Palm Sunday – Holy Week begins!
Holy Week got off to its traditional start on Sunday with the gathering for the 11.00am Sung Mass on The Triangle outside Christ Church, followed by the Procession of Palms. Fortunately the weather was kind and, whilst cool, the occasion was mostly blessed with glorious sunshine. Why not join us for one of our services this week as we journey through Christ’s Passion and Resurrection…

Christ Church welcomes more choristers!
At the 11.00am Mass on Sunday 28th February, the choir and congregation were very pleased to welcome two more young people as choristers in our ever-growing choir. Emma has joined the sopranos whilst Gabriel is a very useful addition to the tenor section. They were formally admitted by Fr Jonathan and presented with their Royal School of Church Music awards in a short ceremony after the sermon. Later, a special post-communion anthem was sung in celebration.
This now brings the number of young choristers admitted in the last year up to seven and we would be very happy to hear from any more young people in the Belper area who may be interested in joining the choir (or for that matter are interested in playing the organ!) as Elin, our Director of Music, strives to keep traditional church music alive and well in our parish.
