After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfil the scripture), ‘I am thirsty.’ A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’ Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’ (Matthew 26: 30,36)
Christ Church’s very own Garden of Gethsemane last night, recreated around the Altar of Repose in the Lady Chapel. Our flower arrangers did a wonderful job (as always) to set the scene for The Watch with Jesus until Midnight.
Holy Week got off to its traditional start on Sunday with the gathering for the 11.00am Sung Mass on The Triangle outside Christ Church, followed by the Procession of Palms. Fortunately the weather was kind and, whilst cool, the occasion was mostly blessed with glorious sunshine.
